Trendy Tuesday: Face Jug Hot From The Kiln

Hot from The Kiln

Cindy Douglass Face JugThis is a face jug I had made and fired in a salt kiln. The salt kiln is not easy for me to access, so I usually call them limited editions. So, here is a limited edition face jug. *grin*

Juggling Jobs, Pots and Blogs

Candle Holder. A little something I made. It is said that if you want to get something done, have it done by a busy person. The theory seems to be that the busy person rises to the challenge and is able to juggle a lot of balls in the air at the same time.

A difficult week puts all the blessings in my life in sharp relief.
As always, I'm thankful for the love and care of my husband. I'm thankful for good friends who root for my success.

Rough Week

Sometimes it is easy to feel sorry for our selves. You work real hard, you make all kinds of sacrifices, and find the pay out at the end to be, well, kind of dismal. Then there’s an accident in which your good luck elephant gets broken, your hand gets cut up. It would be a good reason to cry in frustration, except for one thing – your friend, the friend who’s helped so much with hopes of your success – has a glass of wine waiting for you.

I'm lucky to have that kind of friend. So instead of feeling sorry for myself, I think I’ll go collect that drink.

Feedback Friday

This Extra Large Yarn Bowl has a new home! Here's some of the feedback I received this week on my pottery yarn bowls.

Sue, of Crochet Addict UK is musing a purchase of a pottery bowl.

A Favorite Potter - Andrew Stephenson

It’s Admiration Thursday! Today I will write a bit about one of my favorite potters, Andrew Stephenson of Andrew Stephenson Pottery.

Clay Store

I once ran out of clay. I exclaimed to a friend that I needed to "go get some more".

My friend is my friend partly because she is so interested about the same things in which I'm interested. She also brings a different perspective to me. I sometimes take knowledge for granted. She paused, and then asked, “I know you use clay. I know you must obtain clay. Where does one buy clay? I have never heard nor read who sells clay.”

I responded with a big grin on my face, “I go to a clay supply store.”

Pottery Experiment Rainbow Yarn Bowl

Often times, it seems I spend a good part of my time in experimentation. Can I throw it on the wheel in the shape I see in my head? Does it work as intended? What didn’t work? Why? What can I do differently next time to get the result I want? Do the glazes behave? How many of these freaking pieces am I going to have to throw away before I have a viable product?

Getting Ready For 'Art On The Square' Art Show

For the time being, I am limited to the afternoons of Tuesdays, Thursdays, and most Saturdays for studio work. My Stardust Pottery Studio schedule is a bit off kilter this week as I prepare for the art show, "Art On The Square", on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 in Morganton, NC.

To Do June 3rd - June 9th.

Monday afternoon:

  1. Load the kiln and Bisque Fire.
  2. Trim bowls on shelves? Depends on condition of the bowls.
